Iowa’s state motto reads, "OUR LIBERTIES WE PRIZE AND OUR RIGHTS WE WILL MAINTAIN." Oh, is that so?
Let's review the removal of our liberties and rights under Iowa's Republican-majority legislature this year alone:
1. Transgender students barred from school restrooms and locker rooms matching their gender identities
2. Transgender kids barred from gender-affirming healthcare
3. Parents of transgender kids barred from making healthcare decisions for their families
4. Students barred from learning about gender, HPV/HIV healthcare, racial inequities, actual American history, and anything the government deems too “woke”
5. Teachers barred from teaching about the world as it is (replaced with a prescribed, sanitized fairytale land)
6. Teachers forced to out transgender students who confide in them as trusted adults
7. Pregnant people barred from making healthcare decisions for themselves (pending litigation)
8. Healthcare professionals barred from providing abortion care to patients until they reach the verge of death (pending litigation)
Iowa's motto applies only to those who look right, think right, believe right, love right, or own a personal arsenal of assault weapons. The rest of us, well, we don't really matter. We’re forced to live under the Republican’s out-of-touch and largely unpopular policies.
Are you fed up? Are you angry about having your rights trampled? Are you ready to make Iowa civil again? Then vote Gov. Reynolds and her Republican posse out!
The choice is simple. Vote to preserve your rights or to have them taken away. Vote like your rights depend on it!
